Jaguars agree to verbal terms with LB Posluszny.

And so the Jaguars start free agency with a bang. As general manager Gene Smith said, the Jaguars would be looking for starters on the defensive side of the ball. Tonight they did just that. Via Jason La Canfora of NFL network (and a few other Jaguars insiders), it has been confirmed that the Jaguars have agreed to terms with Paul Posluszny, the former MLB from the Buffalo Bills, and I must say I believe this to be a great move. Posluszny is a tackling machine, racking up at least 110+ tackles his last three seasons, which includes a whopping 151 tackles and 2 sacks last year. He was the heart and soul of the Buffalo Bills–a team that lacks star power. From what I’ve read the Bills fought tooth and nail to keep him, but Posluszny wanted to test the market. With such star power he was too good of a player to stay on the market. This move shows that that Jaguars are serious about being a playoff contender and taking down the defending AFC South Champs in Indy. As for the details of the contracts, I’ve read it’s possibly a 6 year 7.5 million dollar contract which is steep. The good news is not even half of it is guaranteed (only 15 million). He won’t be able to sign the contract until Friday the 29th due to the new CBA Rules. Now one would assume the Jaguars will continue to upgrade their defense and probably get a safety (which they really need) soon. I’m hearing a lot about them pursuing Eric Weddle, whom I wrote my last article was about. As Poslusny wasn’t, Weddle won’t be cheap. I could see them going in another direction if Weddle is costly. Also look for the Jaguars to sign pro bowl TE Marcedes Lewis with the cap room they have.
