The NHL is planning to add 5 more outdoor games to the 2013/14 season, including the Winter Classic game that was supposed to be held in Anne Arbor at Michigan Stadium between the Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs, but was ultimately cancelled due to the NHL lockout.
The games to be played include two games hosted by the New York Rangers at Yankee Stadium against the New York Islanders, followed by the New Jersey Devils. Both games will be held the same week as the Super Bowl held in East Rutherford, NJ.
Two games will also take place after the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia where the Blackhawks will host the Pittsburgh Penguins at Wrigley, and Vancouver will host Ottawa at B.C. Place.
One very interesting addition is a proposed outdoor game to be held between the Anaheim Ducks and L.A. Kings at Dodger Stadium. These games have not been finalized as of yet, but ESPN reports the NHL’s outdoor series is in the final planning stages now, and should be releasing the update relatively soon.
