The Jaguars went into this season with holes on their roster and still have some to fill. However they did come out of this pre-season with some players I feel will breakout this year. Of coarse we have a few stars like MJD, Marcedes Lewis , Aaron Kampman, and Paul Posluzny, but there are a few other under the radar players I feel we should watch out for.
Deji Karim – My first question is how was this guy a 6th round pick? He had a great season last year as a kick-off returner despite being hindered by injury. He bounced back healthy this season and proved to be more than a special teams weapon. He actually proved to be a solid backup RB. He made several huge plays this pre-season on special teams and as a RB. I truly feel like he might be the next big weapon for the Jaguars offense.
Cecil Shorts – I’ve said this more than once but it looks like this guy’s going to eventually end up as a starter at WR. He had a stellar training camp. And after fumbling his first possession in the pre-season he settled down and played well. What I really like about him is his route running ability and his ability to get open (something our receivers have trouble doing). His touchdown catch against the Rams showed he’s finally settling down and will possibly be another weapon for the Jags this year. Hopefully we’ve finally found a future #1 receiver in this guy.
Tyson Alualu – Though Jaguars fans know he’s the man, I put him on the list because the rest of the NFL has yet to recognize him. He had a great under the radar camp and a great pre-season. If you saw the game against the Falcons then nothing more need’s to be said. He man handled those guys banandles.
Can you tell I’m an Adventure Time fan?
Jeremy Mincey – First let me say that we shouldn’t get to excited about Mincey yet. He is however on the rise. He had a quiet training camp but really showed flashes in the Falcons game as Tyson did. He constantly harassed Matt Ryan that game and opened some eyes. As I said earlier he was inserted into the starting line up opposite Kampman in the last pre-season game.
